NVQ

With a vast array of specialisms, qualifications and options available to you, choosing the course to suit your needs can be confusing. The following section answers some common
questions to help you make an informed decision.

What is the difference between an Pinks Academy qualification and an VTCT/NVQ level qualification?
Whilst researching courses, you may have found that there are many different accrediting bodies, usually in the form of confusing initials, that people keep throwing at you! With that in mind, we thought we’d try to make things a bit clearer for you.

Upper tier qualification:

VTCT/NVQ Certificate

The Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) is the beauty industry’s oldest awarding body. They issue NVQ certificates (National Vocational Qualifications) or the internationally recognised VTCT certificate. Both are equivalent, and vary according to the subject unit you are taking. The VTCT/NVQ certificates are the highest level of vocational qualification in the UK, are widely recognised by salon owners/public and fully insurable. It will allow you to work anywhere. Apart from VTCT, NVQs or equivalents are offered by City and Guilds, Itec and Cibtac.

Middle tier qualification:

Pinks Academy Certificate

Our certificates, although not the highest national qualification, do carry the accreditation of the major industry bodies (BABTAC, GUILD and Embody). As such, the certificate you receive will indicate that you have been trained to a standard high enough for those governing bodies, and will allow you to obtain insurance. The significant advantage of choosing this route is that it offers the quickest and cheapest way to get started.

Lower tier qualification:

Non-Accredited Certificates

Without the accreditation of the major governing bodies, these will not allow you to obtain insurance, nor qualify you to practice what you have learnt.

Why are the courses so much shorter than at colleges of further education?

Fast-track training in small groups of students, who really want to learn, speeds things up considerably. Being in a Pinks class for a whole day at a time saves a great deal of time wasted in colleges where you arrive at a 2-3 hour lesson and lose a large chunk of this time to registering, getting set up and having to tidy up at the end. We cover the essential theory for safety & hygiene reasons but most of the in class training is practical. You are expected to undertake further study by reading your manual and/or recommended text books which you would otherwise do during your college time. You will be completing your case studies at home rather than at college but still have access to a tutor if you have any problems.
